François Mitterrand became president, ushering in a new socialist era in France.

Jed wore a red beret to every client meeting and pitched a soap ad featuring revolutionary chickens. It ran once, during a subtitled Marxist opera. No one knew what it was selling. Jed said ‘liberty’.
