Jed converted the garden shed into a proper studio with a skylight and heater.

He told everyone he was ‘withdrawing to observe shadows properly’. He mostly painted seaweed, then gave the paintings Latin titles. Friends said it was ‘his Roman phase’. Jed nodded solemnly. It lasted six months.
